Quick answers

Kids surf lessons questions

What age can kids start surf lessons?

There is no single magic number — swimming comfort and the ability to follow one voice matter more than a birthday. Tell the crew your child’s age and water comfort and they will say honestly whether a lesson fits right now.

Do parents have to surf too?

Not at all — plenty of parents cheer from the sand with the towels and the camera. If you would rather paddle out together, a family private group puts everyone in the same lesson.

How does SFC teach young surfers?

The lesson begins with a beach introduction and clear instructor cues. SFC limits groups to four students per instructor; discuss your child’s swimming ability and individual support needs with the crew before booking.

Which lesson is right for a child?

A solo young surfer does well with one-on-one coaching; siblings and parent-and-kid crews usually book the private group so the family is the whole class.

What should my child bring?

Swimwear under their clothes, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen and a warm dry layer for afterward. The board, leash and rash guard are provided, sized for the surfer using them.
