Lesson moments
From sand practice to your first attempts
See how the group gets ready, shares instructor cues and learns in the water.
Before water
Show up solo or with a crew
Most of the class may have just met. Boards come off the rack, rash guards go on, and strangers start trading names before anyone touches the water.

In the lesson
The onshore briefing, then the water
Uncle Savage and the crew don’t lecture. You get the few things that actually matter — where to lie, when to paddle, how to pop up — then you go do them for real.

Water time
Every wave gets a coach’s eyes
When your turn comes, an instructor is right there — picking the wave, calling the paddle and telling you the one thing to fix before your next ride.

Quick answers
Open-group lesson questions
How many people share an open group surf lesson?
Up to eight guests share the class, and never more than four surfers to one instructor. The group-rate class is intended to run with at least two students; a solo booking may be moved, switched or cancelled if another open-group student does not join that time.
Do I need experience to join an open group lesson?
No experience needed — most of the class are first-timers, and the lesson starts on the sand with the board, the paddle and the pop-up before anyone floats.
What is included in the lesson price?
The board, leash and rash guard are included with no gear fees — you bring swimwear, a towel and reef-safe sunscreen.
Where do group surf lessons in Waikīkī meet?
At the Ala Wai Boat Harbor in Honolulu — your booking confirmation carries the exact meeting spot, and the marked SFC lesson van is easy to find.
Can I book one open-group spot by myself?
Yes. Book at least two hours ahead and watch for SFC messages before the lesson. If no second open-group student is attached to that time, SFC may ask you to choose another open time, switch to private instruction or cancel if rescheduling is not workable.
