What to pack for your Waikīkī lesson
Wear your swimsuit and pack a towel, drinking water and sun protection. SFC provides the board, leash and rash guard.
SFC brings your surf gear
Every lesson includes the equipment you need in the water, so your packing list is short. Bring what keeps you comfortable before and after, and leave valuables at the hotel.
- Reef-safe sunscreen (mineral, zinc-based) — apply 30 minutes before you leave so it sets.
- A towel and a dry change of clothes for after.
- Drinking water — Waikīkī sun dehydrates fast.
- A swimsuit worn under your clothes so you’re ready at the harbor.
- A hat and sunglasses for the beach talk and the wait.
- A little cash for parking or a snack; a phone in a waterproof pouch if you want photos.
- Photo and video add-ons: if you would rather not risk your own phone in the water.
Tip: Skip anything you’d hate to lose. Phones, wallets and jewelry don’t belong on the sand or in the water.

You don’t need to rent or buy any surf equipment for an SFC lesson. The crew sizes it to you at check-in.

Before you leave the hotel
Reef-safe sunscreen isn’t just courtesy — Hawaiʻi law restricts sunscreens with oxybenzone and octinoxate because they damage the reef. Buy mineral sunscreen and you’re both protected and legal.
