Meet classmates in an open group
An open group works for solo visitors, friends and small parties who are comfortable sharing instruction with travelers they have not met. Everyone hears the same beach foundation, then the instructor directs individual cues as each person practices. The class can feel social while each surfer still has a separate board and attempt.
Choose this format when meeting classmates adds to the morning and the published group structure fits the people booking. The lesson remains instructor-led, and the final student mix depends on who reserves that time.
Keep coaching close in private instruction
Private instruction is published for one surfer. The instructor can watch more of each paddle, pop-up and reset because the coaching conversation stays one-on-one. It is the clearest choice when a solo learner wants every correction directed to their own movement.
Private instruction still happens in a shared ocean. Other surfers, reef and conditions remain part of Waikīkī. The difference is who receives the coaching, not ownership of a break or a promise of empty water.
Bring your crew in a private group
A private group is built for friends or family who want to learn together without outside students joining the lesson. Count the people entering the water, then use the published party limits and instructor ratio to decide whether one booking fits.
This format helps when keeping two to eight surfers together. Share ages, experience and water comfort before checkout when the crew includes very different learners.

If the website and checkout ever disagree, pause and text SFC. Do not select a nearby rate and expect the beach crew to rebuild the reservation at check-in. A clear question protects the guest and the schedule.
Choose the people before the calendar
Start with one question: who should be beside you when the instructor gives the first water signal? An open class welcomes other learners, private instruction keeps feedback close and a private group protects your own party. Once that answer is shared, duration and price become easier to compare.
